FAQ’s:

    Ø What is Qi Gong?

Qi Gong is an internal Chinese meditative practice which uses slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to promote the circulation of qi within the human body to achieve optimal health. Qigong, sometimes pronounced “chi kung” is a 5000-year-old Chinese tradition that incorporates both still and moving forms, with more than 10,000 styles of qi gong and 200 million people practicing around the world.

Ø What is Yi Jin Jing?

Yi Jin Jing is one of oldest and most practiced styles in China. It is also called the Changing Tendons Exercise. In Chinese Yi means change, Jin means "tendons and sinews", while Jing means "methods". This form aims at strengthening the muscles to promote strength, flexibility, and balance so the harmonious qi will flow through the meridians hence the body is free of diseases. This exercise pays great attention to the coordination of movements, respiration and mind so as to guarantee that qi circulates freely and smoothly. This timeless teachings from the ancient martial art master have been considered the key to long-lasting youth. It is one of the most well kept Martial Arts technique of the Songshan Shaolin Monastery. The term Yi Jin Jing can be translated also as regeneration of the Body and Tendon -Transformation and Marrow-Purification method. It is beneficial for back, shoulder pains and all arthritic stiffness and joint problems.

Ø What is Ba Duan Jin?

File:Baduanjin qigong edit1.jpgThe figure from the left was from a painting of a qigong master of Qing Dynasty, practicing Ba Duan Jin.

Ba Duan Jin is one of the most common forms of Chinese qigong used today. Ba in Chinese means “eight”, Duan means “piece”, and Jin means “brocade”- Eight Pieces of Brocade, Eight Section Brocade, or Eight Silken Movements and other such names of this form generally refer to how the eight individual movements of the form characterize and impart a silken quality (like that of a piece of brocade) to the body and its energy.

This thousands-year old qi gong (some historical literature dates its existence back nearly 2,150 years), is very popular among the Asian people for its simplicity and flexibility. There are different postures such as sitting or standing; each section can be practiced on its own. The word “eight” not only refers to the eight movements, but, also indicates the multiple elements of the qigong that are inter-restricting, inter-relating and in repeated cycles, each movement targets a specific organ or health need. One can say Yi Jin Jing focuses on maintaining healthy Tendons, muscles, bones and skin, while Ba Duan Jin concentrates on the strong and healthy functioning of the internal organs, especially helpful for those suffering from chronic illness.

Ø Can I take both sessions?

Yes, you can. As a matter of fact, it is most valuable if you can do both. The tuition for 4 days will be reduced to $210. As some of you know, this training with the Chinese masters has been prepared for a long time. Our goal is not to make profit, but to bring this incredible healing art to the American people so everyone here can benefit.

    Ø What’s after this?

Upon completion of the training, each participant will get an official certificate that is issued by the most prestigious qi gong organization in China – China Health Qi Gong association. Like Yoga, Tai Chi and most of the healing exercises, qi gong has to be practiced frequently. In order to help everyone stay on a regimen, there will be free practices every week, held at the Mt. Tabor Healing Center and other locations. The goal is to master the art and bring total health to your body. In the next couple of years, a team of qi gong practitioners will be led by Mei Jin Lu to represent United States at the annual Qi gong performance/competition held in China. Besides Hong Kong, Japan, some eastern countries and many European delegations, there haven’t been any teams from United States as yet. You can be a member of the first team! The cost of traveling to China will be subsidized by the sponsoring organizations. Who wouldn’t want to get an amazing trip to china out of this? So, go for it!
