Hand positions when ending Kunlun vs Red Phoenix, Grounding, Spirit travel

Could others comment on your understanding of below & why Max has said that they need to be done in this manner:

Kunlun: Left hand over right in belly area

Red Phoenix & Others: Right hand over left in belly area

    "metal to earth mudra"

    hello everyone

at the LA 6/7/08 level 1 workshop, Max taught us this mudra where you joined your thumb to middle finger and hold your index and pinky vertically. As I so this mudra, I feel uneasy as I feel this is similar or excatly the same mudra used by the satanist as commonly seen exhibited by high public officials in photographs.  http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A0oGkw_3zVlI4YIBEIxXNyoA?ei=UTF-8&p=bush%20satanic%20hand%20sign&rs=0&fr2=tab-web&fr=ush1-mail

I am not sure if holding this mudra has the same resonance/antena effect as the satanist mudra. i would feet better holding this mudra if they were not the same.

    cheers...

Red Phoenix hand mudra is quite different than what is shown in these pictures.

I dont think there is any link between the two.

Re: Hand positions when ending Kunlun vs Red Phoenix, Grounding, Spirit travel

When Max explained this a few weekends ago he said something like:

The Red Phoenix practice is about collecting / holding energy (I interpreted it as yin and now can't remember the original phrasing), whereas Kunlun is about producing and giving out energy (so for me, yang).

I'm going to extrapolate that since in many traditions the right side is yang while the left is yin, having the right closer to the belly confirms yang (production / outreach), whereas the left closer to the belly confirms yin.

But keep in mind that I am a rank beginner and all this could be so, so very wrong!!  :-7

First of all satanists don't have or use mudras. What you're construing as a mudra is just a hand sign that crazy rockers started throwing up at heavy metal concerts to indicate the horns of the devil and has absolutely nothing to do with meditation or the channeling of energy. The stigma surrounding it is completely arbitrary and cultural.

There is a similar mudra -- the apan mudra -- to the hand sign you're talking about, except that the tips of the fingers are touched together instead of the middle and ring fingers being held down by the thumb. This mudra is good for the circulation, and although I'm not aware of any mudra that is exactly the same of devil's horns hand sign, I'm sure there is one and that it has similar positive effects to the apan mudra. The variations on mudras are nearly endless.

I think Max said that the middle finger to thumb mudra symbolizes bringing down heaven to earth or spirit to earth or spirit into us. That's all.

Incidentally, I've been practicing kunlun with every type of mudra I can find. Haha. The effects are amazing. Here are some links:

        Yogic Mudras

        The Kuji-in

Always remember to play and have fun. :-)
